Shaena Luana Dela Cruz Hoohuli was born to Mr. Donald D. Dela Cruz and Mrs. Eloise "Healani" Dela Cruz and was raised in Maili till age 5. In 1984, her Ohana were beneficiaries to crown lands on Oahu's Nanakuli Hawaiian Homestead/Haleakala Avenue, (Great-Granddaughter to Marie Olsen-first Nanakuli Homestead Association President). Shaena is a proud graduate of Waianae High School, class of 1996. She also attended University of Hawaii Leeward Community College to educate herself in Early Childhood Education, which enhanced her to be directly involved with Oahu's West Coast Youth, as a floating Substitute on the coast. As a substitute teacher, Shaena experienced firsthand the struggles and challenges on the Leeward Coast. Today, the community is faced with public safety issues, poor education, poor healthcare and it continues to endure limited resources/services offered to Keiki and Kupuna on the Leeward coast.
To further her understanding of what plagued the Leeward Coast communities, Shaena volunteered and worked alongside Leeward Coast Community Leaders: Mayoral Candidate Kymberly Pine, former City Council Member Andria Tupola, former Governor Candidate and State House Representative for District 43 Stacelyn Eli, current State House Representative District 43 Diamond Garcia, Chairman of State DHHL William Aila, and many other Community Leaders as a volunteer. Shaena secured a highly favorable position with current State House Representative, Cedric Gates, District 44 and was directly involved with the Community Policing Team/Neighborhood Security Watch, Kapu Aloha S.I.S Project at the Nanakuli Homestead Cemetery. She also devoted her time to the Waianae and Ewa Beach Boys & Girls Club - grab and go meals.
Shaena is happily married to her High School sweetheart, Jason Hoohuli, Sr. and proudly serves Hawaii's community, City and County Refuse Division,Shaena and Jason are blessed with 4 children,Shaycelynn, 2016 graduate of Kapolei High School, Shayann 2020 graduate of Nanakuli High School, Jason, Jr "Kona" currently attending Damien (2021), and their youngest daughter, Shayzelle "Halia", who currently attends Kamehameha Schools (2031)With a family rooted deeply in service and rich experiences in the Leeward Coast Communities, Shaena Luana Dela Cruz Hoohuli is hoping to answer her calling, as your next State House Representative for District 43, as an Aloha Aina candidate.
